What is Design?

Design is something that is visually either pleasing to the eye or difficult to look at. Design can be an arrangement of patterns or shapes. Design is a thought out process which you must go through a series of steps before you reach your final product. There is meaning., placement, understanding, and visual interest when designing. You can say design is a more structured approach in the art world where you have guidelines and rules to follow. Successful design is not only visually attractive but it catches your emotions as well. For example when I create henna designs for my clients, I make sure that each bride has something unique that sets her apart from the previous bride.Sometimes they will request for special images that may represent them in some way to be included in the design elements. As an artist I have to think ahead of time how the design layout will look with all the elements the client has requested to include. In the beginning this process was difficult and I used to get headaches from thinking so much. Many years later, now that I understand how certain elements contrast each other and the understanding of design placement through trial and error has molded me into a successful designer. These key elements of color theory and design space are important when designing and helps us to better be able to design more successfully.

As a designer I am still growing and I have yet to learn more about design. This is what I love about design, it is an ever growing and constantly evolving field. There is always something new to create, learn, experience and see.
